HYGIENE DRIVE

~Pictured above are items collected at last months bee.~

As a gesture of thanks to Mission del Sol we are participating in their Hygiene Drive to benefit the Kyrene Foundation.  We participated in their hygiene drive twice last year, March and November, and are doing it again this year.  We collected the needed items last month and will be collecting items again this month for those that were unable to donate to the drive last month or are wanting to donate again this month.  Items are collected and distributed to qualifying underprivileged families in our community.  The items collected are packaged into kits with each kit containing all of the following items:
1. Shampoo
2. Conditioner
3. Toothbrushes
4. Toothpaste
5. Bar Soap
6. Deodorant

Participation in the drive is completely voluntary.  If you would like to participate in the drive we will be collecting the items listed above during our bee this month.  You can bring the items already made into kits using a gallon size Ziploc bag or the items will go directly to the Kyrene Foundation and they will make the kits using your items.

BATTING

~Picture shows batting stock on it's new shelf at the top.  White cabinet stores our smaller pieces of flannel.  The rack holds backing fabric on the first 4 shelves and tops on the bottom 3 shelves.~

The batting stock has been replenished!  Our supply was getting really low so it was time to restock.  I took advantage of a JoAnns online sale and purchased 10 rolls (shipping was only $1.99).  Five rolls of Pellon 20ydsx60" which is used for our larger quilts and five rolls of Air-light Kodel 50ydsx48" that we use on our smaller quilts.  This purchase did create a storage problem... There's not enough room in the Peace by Piece stash closet (the garage) for all those rolls of batting.  In the past I had stored our larger amounts of batting in the husbands hobby  space.  But since our supply had gotten low that space I had been using got sucked up by MAN STUFF.  Among many of the things husband has in his garage are tools and wood so he built this nifty shelf in the stash closet for storing the batting.  Haven't you heard those professional organizer people say, 'in a small space go vertical'.  Yep, it worked perfectly in this case.

DUKE'S CORNER

Hi everyone, Duke here.

Hope you are enjoying the nice weather.  We certainly are.  There are lots of birds for me and the gang to chase while mom stuffs the dog beds.

There was a 3 week break from dog bed making because our house was under siege by the people flu.  Mom just kept saying 'UGH!' but both of my people are better now.

Last month mom could not make it to the bee to pick up all your scraps cuz of a car problem.  Mom said Laura was nice enough to find them a nice storage space until the next bee.  With all those scraps and mom behind because of that flu stuff there will be more than enough scraps to keep us all busy for awhile.  So please hang onto any scraps you have until we can get these ones used up.  Hopefully mom will get back on track for May.

 QUOTES & TIDBITS

Quotes by Rita Rudner

How come when you mix water & flour you get glue. And then you add eggs & sugar and you get cake? Where did the glue go?
You know darned well where it went! That's what makes the cake stick to your butt!

I love being married. It's so great to find that one person you want to annoy for the rest of your life.

My parents always told me I could do anything, but never told me how long it would take.
