THE MEGA EVENT...

If you haven't been connected to the Peace by Piece Quilters in the last six months then let me explain this MEGA EVENT.  In order for us to continue doing what we do (making quilts for kids) we gotta have MONEY.  Even though the community has supported us very generously with fabric and a space to hold bees (which are both necessary) we don't receive donations of batting (also necessary).  We do receive a few money donations but not enough to fund our batting needs.  So, we gotta raise money to buy batting.  We've come up with a few fundraisers but still fell short of meeting the demand.

This year Mission del Sol Presbyterian Church (the place where we hold our monthly bees) invited us to be part of their annual Super Flea Fundraising Event for one day of raising money.  Peace by Piece Quilters volunteers used donated fabrics to make LOTS of items (pictured above) that we sold at the Super Flea.

Volunteers wo-manned our tables filled with handmade goodies and did find homes for many items.  As good as we did at the Super Flea Sale you can see from the above picture there are a few leftover items still looking for a home.  Soooo... these items will be available to purchase at this months bee.  So if ya didn't make it to the Super Flea you can still go home with goodies.

     BEE REPORT

At the January bee volunteers completed 12 quilts and made 23 tops.  For the February bee we have 12 kit-kits ready to cut, 25 kits ready to be sewn, and a short pile of Easter quilts waiting for binding.
Our monthly fundraising raffle items raised $42 for the batting fund.

DEMO DAY REVISITED

Last month we had a demo on how to use the Quilt in a Day Flying Geese Rulers.  Some volunteers practiced this awesome ruler technique resulting in a pile of flying geese blocks.  Since the bee those blocks have been sewn together into an appealing arrangment, the quilting is complete and the quilt is now ready for binding.  The beautiful result will be part of our Show n' Tell this month.

 QUOTES & TIDBITS

We can do no great things, only small things with great love.
~Mother Theresa~

On average Americans eat 10 pounds of chocolate per year.  If you are a lover of milk chocolate try switching to dark, it has properties that help lower cholesterol.

California produces 60 percent of American roses, but the greatest number sold for Valentimes Day in the U.S. are imported, mostly from South America.

JUST FOR GRINS

This video landed in my emailbox last year around Valentine's Day (THANKS to whoever sent it to me).  I've saved it to share with you this Valentine's Day.
It's one of those heart warming stories I think you'll enjoy it.
