THE 1st NO SEWING MACHINES ALLOWED!!!! BEE

For the first time in the 13 year history of Peace by Piece Quilters  we had  a 'NO SEWING MACHINES ALLOWED!!!!' bee.  Our bees always includes lots of sewing machines, the more the merrier!  But not in December 2016!  It was a PARTY bee not a sewing bee!  What do quilters do at a No Sewing Machines Allowed bee?

A BIG SHOW N' TELL

Our bees have always closed with a Show n' Tell.  But not in December 2016!  This time we started the bee with Show n' Tell.  We saw all the new quilts that were ready to go out into the world, just in time for Christmas.  The attendees couldn't wait for Show n' Tell to start so they took an up close sneak peak at all the eye candy.

Once we got our eyes and brains awake with the Show n' Tell we went right into our third year of doing a Show n' Tell of volunteers non-charity creations.  This year everyone in attendance brought something to show and/or share.
It was AWESOME!  There was such a large variety of eye candy it sent my brain into creative overload!

AND THERE WAS THE FOOD

This was a TRUE potluck with no organized signup sheet, just bring a dish filled with your favorite recipe to share with your fellow volunteers.  This was a 24 foot spread of dishes filled with yummy-ness.  There was no shortage of good food!  Some of us even went back for seconds!

THEN THERE WAS THE  REALLY FUN STUFF

We gathered around in a BIG circle and played a Left, Right Game.  Everyone chose a GIFT from a large selection and those gifts got passed Left and Right according to the narrated Christmas story told by Lora R.  There were many laughs and times of confusion during Lora's story.  In the end everyone had a gift in hand.

There was a FREE table for all the crafty items with the holiday wish for a new home.  All but two items were adopted making it a very successful event.

The raffle table was overflowing with selections, five in all.  Winning tickets were pulled for all five items including an OttLite Table Lamp.

~ The kit basket is chocked full of kits for all kinds and sizes of  tops ready to be sewn together.

~ A few quilts are ready for binding and labels.
~ There are currently 146 tops in the Piece by Peace closet waiting to be quilted/or tied.

Looking ahead to February...

~ We will be participating in the Mission del Sol Hygiene Drive.  We have participated in the hygiene drive for the last couple of years as a way to thank Mission del Sol for their continued support of our mission.  If it weren't for their generosity we would not have a place to hold our monthly bee.

Donated items will be distributed in a joint effort between the Kyrene Foundation and the Kyrene School District to help families with basic needs such as food and hygiene supplies.  When a qualifying family picks up a food box it includes a hygiene kit.

If you wish to participate in the drive we will be collecting items listed below during the February and March bees.

1. Shampoo
2. Conditioner
3. Toothbrushes
4. Toothpaste
5. Bar Soap
6. Deodorant

IMPORTANT INFO...
~ Our February bee will be held the second Thursday of the month, on the 9th, not the usual 1st Thursday.  Mission del Sol will be holding their annual Super Flea on February 4th to raise funds for their missions. The week prior, which includes the 1st Thursday, is their set-up week.  Check our bee calendar for all the 2017 bee dates.

DUKE'S CORNER

Duke here:

Mom was able to deliver a car load of pet beds last month to the Forever Loved Pet Sanctuary which is located in Scottsdale.  It's like a animal retirement center!  Senior dogs and cats that no longer have a home get the care and love they need.  And humans can adopt the seniors just like a regular shelter.

The sanctuary loved the beds mom dropped off and send their thanks and appreciation for the effort and the donations.

She will be accepting pet beds and scraps at the January Bee.
