The official start of summer was June 21 and the temperatures here in the Valley of the Sun definitely tell us summer has arrived. |

Those triple digit temperatures are here and that leaves us desert dwellers seeking ways to avoid the heat and stay COOL. It may help beat the heat by THINKING COOL. So, to help get the COOL thoughts flowing I've been digging around in the Peace By Piece closet for fabrics that inspire COOL Holiday feelings. Snowflakes... Snowmen AND Snow-women... Gingerbread men AND Gingerbread women... You can have a COOL time with all of these COOL fabrics on Thursday, July 9th during our Christmas in July kit bee. As usual, the kit bee will be at my house (get in touch with me if you need directions) beginning at 10:00. Lunch and all the COOL fabric will be provided. |

SPECIAL PROJECT REPORT... Last month Peace By Piece Quilters received an e-mail message informing them of a dreaded diagnoses our friend Ellie had received. Ellie has been influencing children for many many years. She is a retired school teacher, has been an Arizona Blankets 4 Kids volunteer for many years and the Peace By Piece Quilters have enjoyed her company during our bees for the past couple of years. Ellie has been a part of making comfort quilts for children in the valley for a long time. It was time for Ellie to have a comfort quilt of her own and so a very special project was started. Many people whose lives have been touched by Ellie's generosity and dedication to children were invited to write a message on a piece of fabric that would be sewn into a comfort quilt for Ellie. Below is the result of the project and Ellie reading over the messages.

The Peace By Piece Quilters 'It just Kinda Happened Book Club' is ongoing and books can be exchanged at the next bee. So if you've read a good book lately bring it to share. |

AVE SEW & VAC The bee held at 35th Ave Sew and Vac in June was very productive with a total of 36 quilts being completed. 14 little Preemie blankets and 22 Child/Teen size quilts were done by the end of the day. Ellie's comfort quilt (refer to paragraph #4) was seen by everyone who attended and signed by a few people who hadn't had a chance to share thoughts with Ellie. |

CUTTING EDGE QUILTWORKS The Cutting Edge bee in June also finished a great number of quilts. The total for the day was 24 quilts. There were 10 Preemie blankets and 14 Child/Teen size quilts made. The highlight of the day for several volunteers was learning how to use the shops AccuCutter. Lots of fabric was cut in a short amount of time with several kits being the result.

The next Arizona Blankets for Kids bee is scheduled for October 17 at the Chandler Police Department. The annual AZB4K Quilt Camp is scheduled for August 14, 15, and 16. Peace By Piece Quilters The
month of July will be all about fabrics that make the mind go to COOL
thoughts. UPCOMING BEE DATES... Join us Thursday, July 2nd at 35th Ave Sew and Vac in Chandler for a day that will COOL ya down. There will be some COOL fabrics that will make you say, Ahhhhh.....
Don't forget the Peace by Piece Christmas in July kit making bee on Thursday, July 9th. We will be playing with HUGE piles of fabric that will help you have COOL thoughts (see paragraph #3).
And then we'll be at the Cutting Edge Quiltworks on Thursday, July 16 for another COOL day sewing COOL fabrics. Smile...
