HELPING OTHERS
|
||
On August 4, 2011 we
held our first bee at Mission del Sol Church. Their generosity has
allowed us to use their space 11 times every year absolutely free, never
asking for anything in return. As a gesture of thanks we've tried
doing something in the past to help them with their missions and last year
we seemed to hit on a good way. We participated in a hygiene drive
they do twice a year, March and November, with the Kyrene Foundation.
Items are collected and distributed to qualifying underprivileged families
in our community. The items collected are packaged using a ziploc bag
into kits with each kit containing all of the following items:

SPECIAL VISITOR Boy Scout Ryan presented us with a quilt during last months show n' tell. Ryan was working on earning a badge and making a quilt for charity allowed him to earn the badge he was after. His grandma, Barb W. a Peace by Piece volunteer, shared her quilt making know how with Ryan and together they got the job done. Way to go Ryan!

RAFFLE WINNERS |
Last month we pulled the winning tickets for two large raffle items. Both items were on the raffle table for two months giving many volunteers a chance to purchase chances to be the lucky winner. Linda C. was the lucky winner of the Generations Create a Bag. It's an innovative rolling workstation which includes pockets to organize and store your supplies. This is a rugged piece of rolling suitcase luggage. There is a roomy interior cavity for projects or a small portable sewing machine with plenty of storage areas with zippered closures and a hidden telescoping handle. Created for scrapbookers, great for quilters and crafters!
The second item was won by Diane W. Does this picture make you think... Déjà vu? That's because Diane won another large raffle item back in November. Makes us wonder, just how many raffle tickets does she buy? This time her win was a wonderful LARGE basket packed full of quilty items put together by AZB4K Board Member Letty Fowell. Letty is a raffle basket making QUEEN! Maybe Diane will bring her win to the bee so we can all see what was in that basket!

National
Quilting Day is observed on March 19, 2016. It celebrates quilts and
those who make them annually on the third Saturday in March. The
National Quilting Association started National Quilting Day in 1991.
Their members passed a resolution in Lincoln, Nebraska, on June 1991. Today New York's St. Patrick's Day parade is the longest running civilian parade in the world. This year nearly three million spectators are expected to watch the spectacle and some 150,000 participants plan to march. Dublin's
St. Patrick's Day parade is little more than 75 years old. This year
festival organizers will launch 15,000 pounds of fireworks to cap their
celebration, which is expected to draw 400,000 spectators.
