March 2011

AHHHH....

In just a few days it will officially be springtime. March 20 marks the vernal equinox. That's also the date day and night are both approximately 12 hours long. And the day the sun rises exactly due east and sets exactly due west. When I was a kid I was fascinated when someone told me if on this date I sat the small end of an egg on a flat surface the egg would stay perfectly balanced. Of course, in my mom's world testing that statement wasn't worth wasting an egg so I didn't get to test it until I was in my 30's. The egg sat perfectly balanced in my kitchen window for about a week. After a week I wanted to make sure it was really balanced and that I hadn't placed it on a sticky bug or fingerprint and I ruined the experiment by moving the egg!

Fabric Search Engine

Click the title of this paragraph and you'll be taken  directly to a new website that came to me highly recommended. It helps quilters find fabric and quilting supplies. Type what your looking for in their search box and it will search hundreds of online stores to find exactly what your looking for. You can even search by uploading a picture! The only things I'm looking for right now are TIME and SANITY. They couldn't help me in my search this time but I bookmarked their webpage for future searches.

  BEE REPORT...

The February bee was very well attended and FUN was had by all. At the end of the bee we were able to send 37 quilts out into the world. Those quilts will each be giving many hugs. It was evident that there was a whole lotta one on one time spent with the Peace by Piece Kit Kits cuz the kit basket is now overflowing! I'm wondering if someone was cutting kits in her sleep! It's funny how when we were a kid in school homework was a bad word but as adults homework seems to actually be enjoyable. I know not everyone is a fan of cutting so this month I'll be bringing a pile of quilt tops ready for quilting.

Gotta give everyone a chance to be happy doin' homework.

QUOTES & TIDBITS...

Service is the rent we pay to be living. It is the very purpose of life and not something you do in your spare time.

There is some place where your specialties can shine. Somewhere that difference can be expressed.

Corned beef is strictly an American invention, the Irish don't actually eat it to celebrate the day.

JUST FOR GRINS...

The teacher asked her class to write a sentence about a public servant. One of the young boys wrote, "The firemen came down the ladder pregnant." The teacher took the boy aside and asked him if he knew what pregnant means. "Sure," said the boy confidently, "It means carrying a child."

UPCOMING BEE DATES...

Our next sewing bee will be Thursday, March 17 at the Cutting Edge Quiltworks. We'll have lots of new kits for you to sew. I'm working on quilting the Easter tops we have so those should be ready for binding. And we're going to take homework in a new direction.
