MdS HYGIENE DRIVE UPDATE |
WAY TO GO PEACE BY PIECE QUILTERS! Our participation in the Mission del Sol hygiene drive was very impressive. The picture above is the result of our two month effort to help the church support the Kyrene Foundation and people in our community. The items donated will be distributed in a joint effort between the Kyrene Foundation and the Kyrene School District to help families with basic needs such as food and hygiene supplies. When a qualifying family picks up a food box it includes a hygiene kit containing similar item to the ones shown in the photo below. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

Dig out your favorite recipe cuz IT'S POTLUCK TIME! November is one of the best bees of the year. There is always lots of good food to taste and we take a little extra time to socialize with our fellow volunteers. We've been having an annual potluck since 2011 and it's always a good time. So here's how it goes... Bring a dish filled with your favorite recipe to share with your fellow volunteers. Please bring any serving utensils needed for your dish and your own drink as drinks will not be supplied. We do have full use of the kitchen for the day so foods requiring refrigeration and/or heating can be accommodated as well as electric for small appliances such as crockpots. Plates, eating utensils and napkins will be supplied. IT'S GONNA BE A YUMMY DAY! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

DUKE'S
CORNER Hi everyone, Duke here: October sure went by fast and mom was able to deliver another Jeep load of beds to the animal shelter. One of the fellows even gave her a BIG hug for all those beds. As always, everyone at the shelter sends their sincere thanks. With the cooler weather, she'll work hard to get as many beds completed as possible so that the critters there will be comfy and warm, so bring us all your scraps! Happy Thanksgiving from our pack! Puppy hugs & kisses.

-------------------------------------- Sickness
was a constant threat to the pilgrims. Scurvy, a nasty disease
caused by a lack of vitamin C, was high in the list. Lemon juice
was taken to help prevent scurvy. -------------------------------------- The
Pilgrims primary beverage was beer, even for kids. The Pilgrims
believed that water was contaminated and often made people sick, which
was probably true in a time before reliable water filtration or
purification. Beer's distillation process killed most parasites
and bacteria, making the brew safer to sip.

JUST FOR GRINS A man was driving down a country road one day at 45 miles per hour when suddenly he noticed a 3-legged turkey running at the same speed beside his truck. Though he thought this odd, the man decided to speed up so he wouldn't cause an accident with the turkey. The man sped up to 55 miles per hour only to again be equaled in speed by the 3-legged turkey. The man then sped up to 65 miles per hour only to again be equaled in speed by the 3-legged turkey. As the man watched in amazement, the turkey suddenly made a sharp left turn and took off down a side road toward a small farm. The man quickly also made the left turn and followed the turkey to the small farm, parking out front. Looking around the man found the farmer around back in the midst of many 3-legged turkeys. After greeting the farmer, the a asked him why he was raising 3-leggeg turkeys. "Well we figure," said the farmer, "that with an average family of 3 people, only 2 can have a turkey leg with an average turkey. But with a three legged turkey, each member of the family can enjoy a turkey leg of their own on Thanksgiving." "That's pretty wise," said the man, who then asked, "Well how do your 3-legged turkeys taste?" I don't know," said the farmer. We've never been able to catch one."
