SPECIAL EDITION BEE SUCCESSFUL !!!

Last month the Peace by Piece closet had a record number of quilt tops waiting to be quilted/tied, there were 235 !!!  So we had a Special Edition Bee to get the tops under control...

It was a different kind of bee, like no other in Peace by Piece Quilters  history.  October was all about FINISHING quilts!  Dedicated volunteers showed up with a reserved seat to perform their pre-chosen task.  The tasks of the day were: ironing tops and backs, layering and basting, quilting/tying, cutting binding and squaring quilted/tied top for binding, sewing binding and labels to FINISH the quilt.  Some volunteers even chose more than one task and thoughout the day moved from station to station, where ever they were needed.

We Completed 50 quilts!  But bigger than that, at the end of the day about 4 dozen tops and at least a dozen quilts ready for binding went home as homework.  Some of those will be returning this month as FINISHED quilts.  Way To Go !!!

At the October bee our Peace by Piece Quilters Holiday Party committee shared a few party things with us.  They have already started making  plans and you'll be hearing more from them at this months bee and in the December newsletter.

LABEL UPDATE

If you read last months newsletter or attended the bee then you are aware we will no longer be sewing Peace by Piece Quilters  labels on our quilts.  We will continue to have "Made in USA" labels and have received a fresh supply of those from a new vendor.  They are a much higher quality than the old labels. You'll see an embroidered text and flag on a satin ribbon.  The only down side to these labels is the top will have to be sewn under the binding or the AZB4K label to prevent fraying.
These spiffy new labels will be available at the November bee.

QUOTES & TIBDITS

A few days ago I heard some statistic comparisons that got my attention.  These are ugly numbers that speak volumes and affect the lives of thousands, if not millions of children... every day.

Opioids... Talk of the Opioid addiction and overdoses in this country is everywhere we turn and I know some are tired of hearing it but these are eye opening numbers:
~ 2015 reported over 33,000 opioid overdoses.
~ 2016 reported 40,200 killed in auto accidents.
~ The Vietnam war, 58,220 Americans died.
~ 2016 reported over 64,000 opioid overdoses.

Here's another tidbit:
~ 2016 - Worldwide 80% of the opioid pills purchased with a prescription were in the USA.  But yet, our country only holds 5% of the world's population.

Last word:
This is a very addictive family of drugs.  You are my part of my quilting family and my friend.  If a doctor offers you an opioid prescription please ask for something else.

              BEE REPORT

During the October bee...

~ NO tops were sewn together.
~
We  completed 50 quilts, 29 of those were Christmas.
~ Raffle items raised a total of $59.

What you will find different at the November bee...

~ The kit-kit station has kit-kits that have been patiently waiting for several months to be cut into kits.
~ The kit basket will come out of the closet this month for those that like to piece tops.
~ As always there will be a collection of tops waiting to be layered and quilted/tied.
~ 153 quilt tops still remain in the Peace by Piece stash closet.
~ There will be homework available.  Please note, there will be NO homework available at the December Holiday Party.  If you are interested in doing homework during the holidays please let me know so I have an idea of the appropriate supply needed.

Our Raffle Queen has a Special Raffle for you.  The item will be offered for multiple months with the winning ticket drawn at the Holiday Party.  Do I have your attention?  Are you asking your computer screen "WHAT IS THE ITEM?"  It is a quilt that was getting borders sewn on at the September bee.  Several ladies in it's vicinity of the machine sewing the borders on let me know it should be offered as a raffle item.  As they requested... it is now a special raffle item.  Of course, it is now a finished quilt and no longer just a top with borders.

If you would like to quilt during the bee please click HERE to let me know so I know how many quilt station to have set up.
