AUTUMN HAS ARRIVED

Autumn always arrives with what seems like the flip of a switch.  It's 110 degrees and humid then Mother Nature flips the switch and it's 80 & 90 degree days with cool nights and the humidity is gone.  The nights are so cool we can sleep with a window open and wake to sounds of happy birds signing their songs.  Ahhhh.... Finally... comfortable temps, one of the BIGGEST reasons we live here.  It signals the beginning of the Holiday season for many of us, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the mother of all holidays, Christmas.  It's the busiest time of the year for most of us.  It's also the time of year when the demand for comfort quilts increases.  So we'll do what we do, provide comfort quilts for children.

  BEE REPORT

At the September bee 28 Peace by Piece volunteers completed 45 quilts and 31 tops.  Upon arriving at the October bee volunteers will find lots of fabric for making and cutting kits, a basket full of kits ready to be sewn, a pile waiting to be quilted/tied and 7 quilts waiting for binding.

Fundraising Raffle

Last month's raffle items raised a total of $70, $55 of the money came from the regular raffle items and $15 of it was from the special Philosophy raffle.  Kay R. brought a collection of her much sought after handmade scrubbies that were sold to volunteers which raised another $19 toward our batting piggy bank.  We also received a very generous donation of $100 from volunteer Barb J.

Super  Flea  Update

There has been LOTS of exciting stuff happening to get us ready for the Super Flea.  To start with Doreen K, Lora R, and Kathy R have all stepped up to coordinate the event, and boy have they been busy!  Here's what they have to share with us...

As most of you probably already know, our Peace by Piece group has been given the opportunity to set up a table at the Mission Del Sol Church Flea Market on February 8th.  Many of you have generously donated your time and materials to make items to sell at the table.  For our group effort we have decided to sew the following items to add to those donated items:

Bibs
Burp Cloths
Changing Pads
Microwave Baked Potato Bags
Quilted Hot/Cold Bowl Holders
Foot Warmers

To accomplish this sewing we’ll have two sewing days:  Thursday, October 10th and Thursday October 24th.  Based on the volunteers who have responded it looks like we have 6 – 8 people who would like to participate in that sewing and that size group should fit well into my house.  We’ll sew the baby items on October 10th and the other items on October 24th.

I’ll be at the October Peace by Piece Bee on Thursday afternoon with samples, more details and to sign up sewers.  Our goal is to get everything sewed now before the holidays hit and then we can concentrate on how we will merchandise our table.

Thank you everyone for all your excellent input and help with this project!

 QUOTES & TIDBITS

Every time you go to a quilt shop or purchase fabric online or from a catalog, buy one piece of fabric in a color you do not "like."  Not only will you expand your fabric stash, but you'll expand your options for creativity and growth too.

In the last ten years the amount of stay at home dads has doubled in America at 176,000.  Expand that to include men who maintain freelance or part-time jobs and also serve as the primary caretaker of children while their wife works brings the number to around 626,000.
It's becoming the New Normal.

Have you ever wondered....

How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out

it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage.
